MotorGeek’s Sample Platter of Starter Crankers
NISSAN MAXIMA : Sure, let’s just start with a $30,000 large sedan with one of the best engines in the world and reflexes reserved for a coupe. The latest version reincarnates the Four-Door Sports Car of twenty years ago with a fire-breathing version of the VQ35 3.5litre V6, a sporty exterior matched with a sportier interior and a ride/handling package that wants a canyon road to appear in the middle of Minnesota. Frankly, it’s that good – but check the car for quality issues before you commit to it.
HYUNDAI GENESIS SEDAN : MotorGeek is a sucker for luxury cars. However, I also believe that you don’t have to pay a ransom for a superb package of performance, technology and absolute comfort. After you get over the shock that it’s a Hyundai, a drive will convince you that it’s even more special than the badge. MotorGeek experienced the 385HP 4.6litre Tau V8 with all the goodies you can tick on the spec list – and loved every minute of it! It had a fine ride/handling package exuding with confidence at every turn. It’s not the perfect luxury car, but at $43,000 with everything – it’s a great one to experience if you aspire for something better.
MAZDA6 : Think of a Toyota Camry. Then, think if the Camry had a personality that wasn’t mild mannered or boring. Think of a Camry with a Mohawk and leather. That’s the Mazda6 (pictured above) – a wild child with the room of a Camry. It’s not just “Zoom-Zoom,” but a great road trip sedan for four adults and your luggage, a choice of fine motors and a ride/handling package that inspires the driver towards enthusiasm. Not bad for a car starting around $21,000.
TOYOTA RAV4 : Sure, the stereotype of a bear may require truck or SUV ownership, but let’s get serious for a moment. How many guys do you own a pickup truck of large butch SUV? There’s plenty, but reality dictates a sense of practicality without cramping your style. This is the RAV4 in a nutshell. As a compact SUV, it can seat at least four adults and handles the weather just fine. A choice of engines and drive systems is just the beginning for this smooth riding and well-mannered vehicles starting around $22,000.

1993 nissan maxima starter problems?
My nissan maxima won't start. I had the starter tested, it passed. The battery is fine too. When i go to start the car all i get is a single click. What is weird is when i used a screw driver to try and start it, the starter motor just runs but won't start the car.
If all you get is a single click, it can be...
1. Faulty starter relay.
2. Faulty starter solenoid.
3. In an auto, a faulty interlock switch on the transmission or a faulty relay for above;
4. A faulty ignition switch, or a broken wire.
A screwdriver will not cause the solenoid to engage the bendix drive, if applied to the wrong place. This bypasses the solenoid.
The proper place is to short the (much smaller) solenoid operating connection to the battery side cable on the solenoid. Usually this means removing the wire from the terminal (usually pulls off). If the engine starts, look for the above points.
Ensure transmission, either manual or auto, is in neutral (or park), before doing so!!!
