What is the use of Camry toyota cabin air filter?

I went for oil change at toyota for my 2002 camry and they asked me to change the cabin air filter. They said it makes the car over heat and it cost me 45 bucks .
So is it true and if not cos I doubted the guy, what is the main use of the cabin
