Have two different spark plugs for mercury sable 2001 ?
sable has 3.0 24 dohc , aluminum block , went to change spark plugs and the ones i pulled out that were in it , have a smooth shaft and only about a half inch of threads , got replacements from auto zone , thought they were wrong ones , but another auto
Sounds like they gave you long shank plugs. If you had short ones before, better not use the long ones, the piston may strike the plug and then you've got big problems.
