Why in Car; position of seat belt is angular while in big vehicles it just cover abdomen?

When you sit in car or SUV you have belt that covers right from shoulder to almost whole of the upper body while when you sit in Bus or airplane it just cover abdomen. what is the reason behind. please clear that why do we seat belt in airplanes?
