Engine swap possible?
I am looking to buy a 2003 tiburon 2.0L 5-speed. This will be my little project car for the next 5-10 years (long time)...What I would like to do is swap engines (and all internals) with a used (<30,000 miles) 2002 5.7L/346 Z06 corvette engine. The only thing I need to know really is if the Z06 engine (most likely with a s/c) will fit (with fabbing) into the Tiburon. I can't find engine bay dimensions to compare. I know it's a Hyundai...that's why I will swap engines. Also I realize it may be cheaper to buy a used vette...but this is my project...and this is my goal, if possible. I need to know if the engine will fit or not. My budget for this project is $30,000...between the cost of the tib, engine, parts, accessories, paint job, etc. Most work will be done by my friends and myself. The reason for this insane project...easy: I want to have the fastest and only Tiburon with a vette engine. This car will be street driven (not daily)....Thanks for your advice and help, I appreciate it.

i have a customer right now where we are taking his MX3 Mazda, and making it in to a pro drift racing car, we are putting a 355cid chevy motor, and using a TH350 trans, and using a 1969 corvette rear-end complete, so we are changing it from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive.
the hard thing to do is with the rack & pinion as it mounts on the fire wall, and i havnt worked that out yet as im not there yet, but we think we have that part worked out.
we changed the power booster on the brakes to a booster under the floor as this was in the way, and we put a proportioning valve right on the dash, so he can set it for race or street with out getting out of the car.
and we had to have a radiator made to fit in a smaller place.
can this be done? yes.
and the Tiburon has more room then the MX3, and the only thing we needed to change on the motor was we had to use a S-10 4wheel drive oil pan and oil pump pick up from summit made just for the chevy 350 block in a 4 wheel drive set up, that pan justs give use the room we needed to set the motor lower in the engine bay.
i guess my question is what trans are you useing?
are you changing it from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive?
but can this be done? yes.
will it fit? as i said theres more room in the one you have then the one im doing, so yes.
and if nothing else we think if we rase the motor really high up in the air on the charry picker and lower the car to the ground and close are eyes and let the valve open on the charry picker and let if fall, when the crashing sounds is done, ITS IN.

anyways its a lot of work and there way more to it then i posted, but it can and has been done.
if you need any other help e-mail me, and doing this to a jap car is just one step better then built ford though with chevy stuff.
