BMN diversion controller
The fifth of May, aka Cinco de Mayo, big deal, cept it sounds cool. For those of you who’ve been with me all these years remember that we’ve already analyzed the origins of this holiday and how it is making headway into the United States. Apparently like a lot of Holidays here in the US the origin isn’t as important as it an opportunity to sell stuff to consumers, in this case Jose Cuervo tequila promotes Cinco de Mayo or did, before the depression. I don’t see much about it on Google this morning. Like I said, it’s not a big deal, so we lost another reason to go out and drink tequila in bars, with the onslaught of excessive tax on cigars and other tobacco products on our already reduced income and inflation wiping the rest of our money out, there really isn’t much to celebrate.
Not to worry though, while I was checking the headlines this morning looking in vain for one little peek of good news, I saw two headlines about food corporation turning profit again now that they raised prices. Is that a warm fuzzy feeling or has my Depends leaked again? Well it doesn’t matter, except that it proves that the recession has become a depression affecting us in ways we assumed it would, namely at the grocery store. Surely you noticed the prices these last few weeks. I hope it wasn’t just Las Vegas. I’ve personally done the grocery shopping the last two Fridays. I saw it, and it hurt. I had $100.00 in my tucked away in my pocket which I earmarked for a payment on a truck. However, I was soon to realize how tobacco tax and food prices were going to dash my hopes. Canned foods, even the Sure fine brand, had jumped in price since the week before by a dollar per can, making a can of corn, peas, or whatever, $1.78 per can!
Nell is off to work, where one of her duties for the day is going to pay the state sales tax cartel money we owe them. No I’m not a hypocrite, and I know I passed along a tax plan where income tax would be replaced by sales tax. Personally I’m not very good with collecting money for the government, and the State of New Mexico cemented my hatred of them when they jacked the money from my house sale in a divorce. How much was enough for the government? All of it. But I’m over it now, and I probably deserved it somehow. Now however the State of NM wants us to send them more, not much, but it really hits a nerve, even if this time we really do owe it. Sigh.
